Out in the Richland area of San Marcos, a guy texted me about his 2005 Sienna. He had been camping, and somewhere between breaking down the site and loading gear into the van, the only key he had disappeared. Not in a bag, not in a pocket, not on the ground around the campsite. Gone.

He was parked on a camp access road with no realistic tow option and a van full of gear that was not going anywhere on its own. He found me, dropped a pin, and I drove out to him.

When I got there he was sitting on a cooler next to the sliding door. He had already checked every bag twice. The key was not coming back.

I decoded the lock to get the correct cut, made the blade on-site, and then worked through the immobilizer enrollment at the van. On these 2005 Toyotas, connecting to the system before programming starts lets me verify the immobilizer data is intact, which matters on an all-keys-lost job. No existing key means no shortcut. You go in through the system directly.

The new key went in, turned over, and the Sienna idled without stalling. He loaded the last of his gear and drove out of there under his own power.

He asked what the dealer would have cost. I told him to call and find out, because the number would make him feel better about what he paid me. He laughed. Then he drove home.
