Got a call from a woman over in Del Sol Park, Oxnard. She had a 2000 Acura CL sitting in the driveway with one key that was barely hanging on. The blade was worn so thin you could see light through the shoulder cuts, and she said she'd been jiggling it in the ignition for weeks.
She called the Acura dealer first. They told her she'd need to bring the car in, leave it, and wait for the key to be ordered and cut. Two to three business days, maybe more. She works from home and that car is her only ride for groceries, kid pickup, the whole routine.
I pulled up that evening. The 2000 CL uses a standard Honda/Acura mechanical cylinder with no sidebar, so the blade profile is a straightforward cut on my Condor machine in the van. The transponder side is the ID13 chip programmed through the Honda immobilizer system via OBD-II. I connected my programmer to the 16-pin port under the dash, read the existing key data, cloned the transponder value to a new HD106-PT blank, and cut the blade to code.
Tested it in the ignition, door, and trunk. Everything turned clean. The security light on the instrument cluster did its normal two-second check and went out. Engine fired right up.
She held the old key next to the new one and just shook her head at how worn down it had gotten. Whole thing took about 25 minutes, right there in her driveway, for a fraction of what the dealer quoted.
