Got a call around 7pm from a guy near the Ventura River Trail. His 2002 RSX cranked fine but would not fire. Dashboard green key light blinking steady. He had already tried it about thirty times by the time he called me.
He thought the starter was going out because it turned over strong. I told him on the phone that cranking with no start plus that blinking green key on the cluster is textbook immobilizer rejection. The ECU sees no valid transponder signal, so it kills the fuel injectors. Engine spins, never catches.
I got there in about twenty minutes. His key was the original HD106 with the molded plastic head, worn smooth from years of use. I checked it with my Xtool and the transponder response was dead. The T5 chip inside the bow had just given up. Six-digit odometer, original key. Honestly surprised it lasted that long.
Cut a fresh HD106 blank, programmed a new transponder to his immobilizer ECU through the OBD port, and the car started on the first turn. The green key light came on solid for a second and went off, which is exactly what it should do when the system accepts the chip.
He sat in the driver's seat for a second, just listening to the idle like he was making sure it was real. Drove home that night instead of waiting for a tow truck and a dealer appointment three days out.
