2004 Acura RSX
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

Scam locksmiths follow a pattern: a low number quoted on the phone, then a much higher number once they are on-site and you feel stuck. Sometimes a vague "pass or fail" line to cover themselves if the programming does not work. A legitimate locksmith gives you a firm estimate for your specific vehicle before anyone drives anywhere, explains what the job actually involves, and has reviews you can verify.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like the original?

Yes. The replacement is cut to your vehicle and the transponder is enrolled to your immobilizer, so it communicates the same way the factory key did. The car starts, and that is the whole job on this key -- there are no remote functions to test because this is a straight transponder turn-key with no fob attached.

Q: I have one working key for my 2004 RSX. Can I add a spare without going to the dealer?

Yes, and this is one of the better scenarios to be in. On Honda-family cars of this generation, an onboard add-a-key procedure exists that works through the ignition cylinder when you already have a functional key present. It does not require a trip to the dealer or a diagnostic tool plugged into the OBD port. The process involves a timed sequence using your existing key, and a new transponder key gets enrolled at the end.

Q: My 2004 RSX cranks fine but will not start. Could it be the transponder key failing?

It can be. On these cars, a transponder that is not being read correctly will let the engine crank but cut the start. The immobilizer blocks fuel or ignition, and the result feels like the engine almost wants to catch but never does. Check the dashboard for a key-not-detected warning or a blinking security indicator after the crank attempt -- that is a strong sign the transponder is the issue.

2004 Acura RSX Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a detailer at an auto shop in Midtown Ventura. He had a customer's 2004 Acura RSX on the lot and the key had gone missing somewhere in the shop. The customer was coming back in two hours and the car needed to move. He was calm on the phone but you could hear the math he was doing in his head.

All-keys-lost on these is a clean job if you have the right equipment. I decoded the lock mechanically, cut a new key blade to match, and then handled the transponder enrollment. The car started. Thirty minutes on the lot, start to finish.

The detailer moved the RSX, got through the rest of his afternoon, and found the original key later behind a shelf. His customer picked up the car and never had any idea. He ended up with a spare as a bonus.

The dealer would have had the car trailered in, ordered the key, and handed it back days later for considerably more money. For a 2004 RSX, it does not need to be that complicated.
