Got a call from a detailer over near Camino Real Park in Ventura. He had a customer's 2004 Acura RSX on the lot and the key had fallen behind a piece of equipment somewhere in the shop. Gone. He'd torn the place apart for twenty minutes and couldn't find it, and the owner was coming back in about two hours.
He didn't want to make that phone call.
I got there and went straight to the driver door. The HON66 lock on the DC5 RSX is clean to decode, no surprises. Read the wafers, generated the key data, and cut a fresh HD106 blank on the mobile unit. The transponder side was the easy part. This generation RSX uses the older Honda immobilizer with a Megamos-type chip, so the programming sequence through the OBD-II port is one of the fastest in the Honda family. Key in, system learns, engine starts.
Whole thing was done in about 25 minutes. He pulled the RSX off the lift area and parked it out front like nothing happened.
He found the original key that afternoon behind a shelf near the compressor. The customer picked up the car, never knew. The detailer kept my number, though. He's sent me three more jobs since then.
A dealer would have needed the car towed in and probably quoted a few days. This one just needed a guy with a van and the right blank.
