A guy in Oxnard, over in the La Colonia neighborhood, flagged me down through a call on a Saturday morning. Tax accountant, picks up his shirts at the dry cleaner every week, and the one time he brings his wife's car instead of his own, the 2013 S5 decides to act up. His only smart key stopped being recognized. Dash just sat there with "No key detected" and refused to crank.

His smart key, the 8T0 959 754 series fob with the Megamos AES chip, was still in the system but wasn't handshaking properly. The internal battery had gone flat enough that the passive signal was barely reaching the steering column reader coil.
Swapped the battery, re-tested proximity detection at the door handles and the start button. All four zones picked it up clean. Then I programmed his spare, a key he'd bought online months ago and never had coded, right there on the spot.
Thirty minutes, two working smart keys, and he still made it to the cleaner before they closed. The dealer would have had his car sitting in a lot for two days.
