2019 Genesis G80
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: What is the FCC ID for the 2019 Genesis G80 smart key fob?

The factory FCC ID is printed on the back of your fob. If you've lost all your keys and can't read it, that's fine. I identify the correct fob for your vehicle from the year, make, model, and VIN. You don't need to know the FCC ID to get a replacement made.

Q: I lost all my keys to my 2019 Genesis G80. Can you still make a new one?

Yes, and it's one of the more common calls I get. All-keys-lost on the G80 is doable without a tow and without a dealer visit. The process is longer than adding a spare because the system has to be reset before new keys can be enrolled. That reset has a timed sequence built into it, so the job takes longer than a simple add-a-key, usually closer to an hour on site.

Q: My G80 key fob works fine to start the car but the door handles stopped detecting it. What's going on?

This is a known frustration on this generation. The passive door-handle detection and the start button use different antenna circuits inside the car. So you can have a fob that the start button reads perfectly but one or both door handles act like you're not there. First check: is it both handles or just one? If it's isolated to one door, the issue is almost certainly on the vehicle side, either the handle sensor or the wiring to it.

Q: Can I buy a replacement G80 fob online and just have someone program it, or does it have to come from the dealer?

You can buy the fob aftermarket and have it programmed. It does not have to come from the dealer. What matters is that the replacement fob matches the correct configuration for your vehicle and that whoever programs it is using proper diagnostic equipment with the right software for this platform. A fob sourced elsewhere and programmed correctly works the same as a dealer-sourced one. The dealer part number is one option, not the only option.

2019 Genesis G80 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a woman in South Surfside who had already done her homework before dialing. She mentioned she'd looked up my license on the BSIS site, checked reviews, and watched a couple of videos about mobile key service. Said she does that with everyone. No apology for it either, which I respect.

She had a 2019 Genesis G80 and wanted a spare smart key cut and programmed. One working fob, no backup, and she'd been meaning to fix that for about a year.

I pulled up to her place, verified the vehicle, and got started. The G80 on this generation requires a proper diagnostic connection to register a new smart key. The immobilizer has to recognize the new fob before anything else works, and that process has a sequence to it. Not complicated if you have the right tools and the right data path, but it's not something you can shortcut.

Cut the emergency blade to her vehicle, programmed the new fob, walked every button, checked the door handles, confirmed the start button read both keys. She tested it herself twice before I packed up.

She said the dealer had quoted her a number that made her pause. What she paid me was a fraction of that. She didn't make a big deal of it. Just said it was fair and that she appreciated that I came to her.

That's the job. No drama, done on site, both keys working before I left South Surfside.

What battery does the 2019 Genesis G80 key fob use?▼

CR2032. Standard size, easy to find anywhere. When I make a replacement or spare key for a G80, I put a fresh one in before handing it over, so you're not starting the clock on a battery that's been sitting in packaging for two years. If you're just swapping the battery in your existing fob, the case pops open at the seam with a small flat tool. Don't pry at the button face side or you'll crack the housing.
