2021 Genesis G80 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was working near the Presidio neighborhood in Santa Barbara when a woman flagged me down, almost literally. She'd parked near a wine bar on State Street, walked back out, and the G80 just stood there ignoring her. Door handles weren't lighting up, fob wasn't being recognized, and she'd already done the thing where you hold it closer to the handle like that helps.
She needed a spare fob added. She already had her working key on her - the car would still start - but she'd been meaning to get a second one cut and programmed for months, and this little scare pushed her to do it that afternoon.
I pulled up alongside her in the service van. The 2021 G80 uses a 7-button smart fob and the job requires going through the diagnostic port to register the new fob to the vehicle's security system. No ignition trick, no button sequence. I connected my equipment, pulled the necessary security data, and registered the new fob alongside her existing one. Then I cut the emergency blade to match her door cylinder, tested every button, walked both door handles, and ran three start cycles to confirm both fobs were live.
The whole job sat in a parking spot on a warm Santa Barbara afternoon. She paid a fraction of what the dealer quoted her when she called them earlier that week. The dealer had also told her to bring it in, leave it overnight, and come back the next day. I was done before her glass of wine would have been.
