Worst case on a 2012 Honda Odyssey is an all-keys-lost smart key where the car battery died during programming and the immobilizer throws errors. It happens more than you'd think. A power interruption mid-security-handshake can lock the IMMO module into a fault state that makes some locksmiths pack up and tell you to tow it to the dealer.
A customer at a muffler shop in Oxnard had exactly that situation. I brought my ACDP bench tool as backup. I was able to recover through OBD by stabilizing the battery with my jump pack first, then clearing the fault codes with my IM608 before starting a clean programming sequence. His smart key, FCC ID N5F-A04TAA, was a 5-button proximity fob. The immobilizer fault cleared once the module reset, and the new fob learned on the first attempt after that. I showed the muffler shop team what went wrong so they'd know to warn customers about battery voltage if it ever came up again.
Total job time was about an hour and a half, which is longer than normal. His bill was 185. The alternative was a flatbed to the dealer, a multi-day wait, and 395 or more. I carry backup tools and backup power specifically for situations where the first approach hits a wall. The job still got done same-day, on-site.
