Got a call from a guy stuck out at Pacific View Mall in Ventura. He had just landed from a red-eye somewhere, grabbed his van from the economy lot nearby, and nothing. Remote wouldn't unlock, trunk wouldn't pop, and his emergency blade key was zipped inside a bag in the cargo area. He was standing next to a locked 2003 Odyssey with luggage on the ground.
He called the Honda dealer first. Earliest opening was Thursday. This was Tuesday morning. Then a tow company wanted to haul it there for another chunk of money on top. He found me online and asked if I could come to the lot.
I got there in about 45 minutes. Opened the door, sat down, and plugged my IM608 into the OBD-II port under the dash. System confirmed both his transponder keys were still registered to the immobilizer module, part number 38000-S0X-A02 on these second-gen Odysseys. The engine wasn't the issue at all. His remote fob battery was dead, and without remote unlock he had no way in. Swapped the remote battery, tested the transponder read on both keys, cleared the one fault code that had stored.
He just kind of stood there for a second when it started right up. Drove home before lunch on a Tuesday instead of waiting until Thursday and paying for a tow on top of a dealer bill. That is the whole point of mobile work.
