An older gentleman near Downtown Ventura called about his 2005 Honda Odyssey. He used a cane, lived in an independent living complex, and his daughter who normally drove him places was out of town. His one and only key's remote was getting flaky, sometimes locking, sometimes not, and he wanted a spare made before it quit on him for good.
I drove out that morning. His Odyssey ran the standard HO03 edge-cut system with the ID46 transponder, nothing exotic. I used my HO01 Lishi to decode the driver's door lock and verify the bitting, then cut a fresh key on the truck. Programmed the new transponder through the OBD-II port using the Honda protocol, which needs the existing working key in the sequence to register a new one. Then I paired the OUCG8D-380H-A remote, all three buttons, lock, unlock, rear hatch.
Before I left, I popped the back off his old remote and showed him the little Phillips screw and the CR1616 inside. Told him when the range starts shrinking again, that is the battery, not the remote dying. He nodded like he was filing it away.
He never had to leave his building or figure out a ride to a dealer. The whole thing took about 35 minutes in his parking lot. For a guy who just needed a second key and some peace of mind, that was the whole job.
