2005 Honda Odyssey
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How fast can you get to me in the Saticoy area?

Usually within 30 minutes of your call, depending on where I am when you reach me. Everything travels with me, key blanks, programming equipment, the works. There's no waiting on a service bay.

Q: Can I get a replacement key made today?

Yes. Honda dealers don't always carry stock for every key configuration, and for a vehicle this age, some service writers will tell you the part needs to be ordered. Owners have posted about waiting several days just for the key blank to come in before programming even starts. I stock remote head key blanks for this generation Odyssey on the van, so same-day is the normal outcome, not something you have to hope for.

Q: I replaced the battery in my 2005 Odyssey remote head key and the buttons still barely work. What's going on?

A few things can cause this even after a fresh CR1616. First, confirm you actually got a CR1616 and not a CR1632, they look almost identical but the 1632 is thicker and won't make solid contact in the tray. Second, the contact pads inside the fob housing on this generation Honda remote head key are known to get corroded or slightly bent over time, especially if an old battery sat in there and leaked even a little.

Q: Can I buy a replacement remote head key online and have it programmed separately?

Yes, with one important note. Make sure the factory FCC ID on whatever you buy matches the fob that originally came with your 2005 Odyssey. Aftermarket fobs with mismatched IDs are common on auction sites and they don't always program cleanly. The transponder side still needs professional equipment to register to your vehicle's immobilizer regardless of where the key comes from, so buying online saves you the part cost but not the programming step.

2005 Honda Odyssey Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Saticoy, I got a call from a man at an independent living complex. He used a cane, his daughter was traveling, and the idea of getting to a dealer wasn't just inconvenient, it was a real logistical problem.

His 2005 Odyssey was sitting in the lot. He had one key, the original remote head key, and the remote side had been getting flaky for weeks. He wanted a spare made before the whole thing gave out on him.

I pulled up to the complex that morning with everything already on the van. Decoded the lock mechanically, cut a fresh key, worked through the transponder and remote programming via the OBD port. The whole job was done before he'd finished the coffee he was holding when I walked up.

I showed him how to check the CR1616 battery himself so he'd have some warning next time instead of a dead remote with no backup key.

He didn't have to call for a ride, coordinate with his daughter from three states away, or sit in a dealer waiting room. The dealer quote he'd gotten over the phone was for one key and didn't include getting there. He walked away with two working keys, done on site, for a fraction of what the dealer wanted for one.

Honda Odyssey Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How long does a 2005 Honda Odyssey key replacement take?▼

Most of the time, 30 to 45 minutes on site. That covers decoding or cutting the blade, programming the transponder, syncing the remote functions, and testing everything before I hand it over. All-keys-lost adds time. When there are no working keys present, the immobilizer reset takes longer and the procedure has a built-in sequence that can't be rushed. Budget closer to an hour for that scenario.
