Got a call from a rideshare driver at a coin laundry near Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. He'd already been burned once. Called one of those bargain-rate Google ads for his 2020 Honda Odyssey, the guy showed up and charged a lot more than advertised, and the key only half worked. I gave him my BSIS license number right on the phone, LCO 6792. He looked it up on the state site while we were still talking. I'm also NASTF certified, which means I pull factory security data through Honda's ILTS portal, the same access the dealer uses. That is the difference between a proper reprogram and a hack job that half-works.
I connected my Smart Pro to the OBD-II port and ran the full Honda immobilizer sequence on his KR5V2XV41 fob. The previous tech had registered the transponder but skipped the remote body control module pairing, so the ID47 chip talked to the engine but the 7 buttons were orphaned. Took about 20 minutes to re-pair everything correctly.
He tested every button in the parking lot. Both sliding doors, the tailgate, lock, unlock, remote start, panic. Then he just stood there watching the tailgate close like he was seeing it for the first time.
Came out to exactly what I quoted on the phone. The dealer wanted way more, and the scam locksmith charged both of us and still couldn't finish it.
