2002 Honda Odyssey Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Over in the Pierpont area of Ventura, I got a call from a woman who runs a vintage furniture booth at one of the weekend flea markets nearby.
She had one key left for her 2002 Odyssey, and it had been acting strange for a couple of weeks. It would start fine sometimes, and other times the engine would crank, catch for half a second, and then die. She thought it was a fuel issue. Her mechanic thought it was a fuel issue too, until he noticed the security light staying on after the crank.
That is the tell on these. The immobilizer sees a key it does not fully trust and it cuts the engine after the briefest start. Looks just like a bad fuel pump or a flooded injector if you are not looking at the dash carefully.
I met her at the lot on her lunch break. She had the original key with her, which helped. I was able to read the existing transponder data and cut a new key to match her ignition, then program the chip through the OBD port. Tested it four times in a row. Consistent clean starts, security light cycling off the way it should.
She asked me at the end whether her old key was still any good. Honest answer: it was marginal. The chip was reading weakly, probably from years of keychain abuse. I told her to keep the new one as the daily driver and retire the original to a drawer somewhere as a last resort backup.
The whole job was done in her parking spot. She did not miss a single sale. Dealer had quoted her a wait of several days and a price that made her wince. She saved a good chunk and kept the van right where she needed it.
