2008 Honda Odyssey Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A nail tech at one of the salons along Telegraph Road in Ventura had about 20 minutes between clients when I pulled up. She had texted me the VIN before I even left, along with a photo of her registration and her ID. Already knew everything I needed: 2008 Odyssey, remote head key, OUCG8D-380H-A, 3-button, ID46 chip.
She had one working key. That changes the whole job.
With a working key present, I cloned the ID46 transponder onto a new blank using my VVDI2. No lock decode needed because I had the bitting from the VIN. I cut the new HO03 blade in the van on the drive over, so by the time I parked, the key was already shaped. Just needed the chip written and the remote paired.
Programming the remote on these is the owner-assisted type. Turn the ignition on, hold lock on the existing remote, press lock on the new one within a few seconds. Honda calls it the "customer key registration" procedure. Simple, but the timing window is tight enough that people fumble it on YouTube and assume it didn't work.
I tested engine start, remote lock, remote unlock, and trunk release. She walked back inside with a tested spare and still had a few minutes left on her break.
The whole thing from parking to handing her the key was about 18 minutes. That's what happens when someone has their info ready before I arrive.
