A family near Del Sol Park in Oxnard called me on a Friday night from a taqueria parking lot. Their 2016 Honda Odyssey would not start, the fob was dead, and neither parent knew about the backup procedure where you hold the KR5V1X against the start button to get an emergency read from the internal transponder chip.

When I got there, I popped the fob open on the hood. The CR2032 was corroded on one side, enough to kill the signal completely. Replaced the battery, cleaned the contacts, and re-paired the fob through the OBD-II port using the Autel IM608 Pro running Honda guided procedure. The security access handshake on the 2016 Odyssey talks to the body control module, board number 38850-TK8, and you have to wait through a timed PIN retrieval before it lets you register.
Whole thing took about 25 minutes. Remote range came back, both sliding door buttons worked, push-to-start responded on the first press. The mom just stood there watching the dash like she expected it to quit again.
They drove home Friday night. A dealer would have meant leaving it there until Monday and paying way more on top of the wait.
