2009 Honda Odyssey
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2009 Honda Odyssey Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was already in Ventura on a Friday evening when the call came in. A family had come out of a taqueria near Thille/Montalvo to find their 2009 Odyssey sitting completely unresponsive. The remote would not lock or unlock, and the van would not start. Neither parent knew what to do next. They figured they were stuck until Monday when the dealer opened.

I told them I was about fifteen minutes out.

When I pulled up, the dad handed me the key and I could see the housing had taken some real wear. The key-ring loop had a hairline crack working through it and the rubber on the lock button was half gone. But the first thing I did was pull the battery. It was a CR1616, and what came out was so depleted my meter barely registered it. Swapped in a fresh one right there on the hood.

Remote function came back immediately. But the van still needed the key properly cycled to verify everything was solid, so I ran through the doors, checked the sliding door lock behavior, and made sure the immobilizer was reading the key correctly on crank. Everything came back clean.

The family had been dreading leaving a minivan full of car seats and weekend gear in a parking lot overnight. Instead they were on their way home before eight. No tow, no Monday morning dealer appointment, no waiting around. When the right parts are already in the van, a Friday night call is not an emergency. It is just the job.
