2020 Hyundai Kona Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
The Waterfront side of Santa Barbara is one of those places where nobody wants to be stranded. Stearns Wharf right there, tourists everywhere, and if you don't have a working key you're just standing in the middle of all of it.
She had parked near the wharf on a Saturday morning, ran an errand, came back, and the door handle wouldn't respond. The fob buttons still worked when she held it close to the door, but the touch unlock that she used every single day had gone dead. She figured it was the key dying and called around. One place quoted her a price over the phone without asking a single question about the car. That was enough for her to keep looking.
I got there and started where you always start: the fob itself. The CR2032 tested low. Not dead, but low enough to drop the passive touch unlock range while leaving the active buttons functional at close range. That's a specific symptom pattern these fobs show when the battery is in the middle of failing rather than fully gone.
Swapped the battery on the hood of the car, right there with the harbor in the background. Touch unlock came back on both handles. Walked every button, checked the start function, made sure nothing else was hiding underneath the battery issue.
That was it. She didn't need a new fob, didn't need programming, didn't need a dealer appointment. She needed the right diagnosis and someone who showed up the same day. The dealer, for reference, wasn't even open on Saturday for key work.
