2024 Hyundai Kona
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

It's a fair question, and Hyundai owners in particular have dealt with a lot of bad actors in the locksmith space. The pattern is always the same: a low number quoted over the phone, then a different number once they're standing next to your car. EZ Car Keyz gives you a firm price before anyone drives anywhere. We show up in a marked vehicle, with a name you can look up.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like my original?

Yes. We program the fob to your specific 2024 Kona and test every function before we leave. Lock, unlock, the remaining buttons, the door handle touch sensors, the start button recognition. All of it gets walked through on site. There's a version of this job that ends with someone handing you a key that kind of works most of the time, and that's not how we do it.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2024 Kona. Can I program it myself or do I need someone with tools?

You need someone with tools. The 2024 Kona smart key system does not have a self-programming sequence you can run from the driver's seat. There's no ignition-cycle trick, no button combo. Programming requires a professional diagnostic tool with current software that can communicate with the vehicle's security system and write the new fob's credentials. The fob you bought online is just hardware until that step is done.

Q: My 2024 Kona shows a key warning on the dash but the fob battery is new. What's going on?

A few things can cause this even with a fresh CR2450. The most common one is a battery that was seated slightly off during reassembly, which causes an intermittent connection. Open the fob, reseat the cell, check that the contact plate is flat against the battery, and retest.

2024 Hyundai Kona Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was already in the Pacific View area of Ventura when the call came in. A woman was parked near the shopping center, standing next to her 2024 Kona, fob in hand, completely locked out. She'd been pressing the door handle sensor for a couple minutes and getting nothing. The start button wasn't seeing the key either.

First thing I did was pull the mechanical backup blade from inside the fob and try the door cylinder. It opened fine. So the car itself was not the problem. I popped the fob open right there on the hood of my van and checked the CR2450. The battery was reading low on my meter, barely above threshold. Enough to show a green light on a battery tester at a drugstore, but not enough to reliably power the RF side of the fob under normal operating conditions. That's a gap that trips people up all the time.

Fresh CR2450, reassembled the fob, walked the perimeter. Driver handle touch unlock, passenger handle, lock button, the start button recognition, all of it. Everything came back clean.

She mentioned she had taken it to a dealer a few weeks earlier for something unrelated and they told her the fob "might need replacing soon." That's a pretty expensive way to frame a battery swap. She was back in her car in about twenty minutes, for a fraction of what a dealer fob replacement would have run.

Hyundai Kona Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Hyundai vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is a California BSIS licensed locksmith company (LCO#6792), fully insured, and NASTF Vehicle Security Professional certified. The 2024 Kona smart key system uses AES encryption and requires professional-grade diagnostic equipment with current software to read PIN data and communicate with the immobilizer. That's not something every locksmith can do, and it's worth asking directly before you let anyone touch your car. You can verify the BSIS license through the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services.
