A retired judge called me from the physical therapy office near Upper Ojai. Hip replacement recovery, walker, aide was off that day. His only smart key had gone quiet on the button side, and the nearest Jaguar dealer was not a short drive under any circumstances, let alone on a walker.

Cleaned the contacts, seated a fresh CR2032, reconnected through the OBD port to confirm the fob was still properly registered in the system. It was. Walked every button, confirmed the start authorization was reading clean.
He did not have to leave the building. Did not have to arrange a tow or a ride or a three-day dealer appointment. I showed him what the battery compartment looks like when it is right, so he would know what to look for down the road.
The dealer, for reference, had quoted him a figure that covered more than I charged, and still would have required getting the car there first.
