A cardiologist near Matilija Canyon in Ojai called me from the B2 level of his building's parking garage. His 2012 XF wouldn't respond to either of his smart keys, and the emergency blade was fighting the driver door lock. He'd already called the dealer, and they told him to get the car towed in. He asked how a flatbed was supposed to make the tight spiral turns and clear the low ceiling down to B2. They didn't have an answer for that.
I drove my van in and walked the rest with my gear. Plugged my VVDI2 into the OBD port and pulled the KVM data. The module was still healthy, just had a sync issue after a battery replacement the week before where both fobs lost their registration. Common X250 problem. Read the EEPROM, generated the key file, and wrote it to a fresh KR55WK49244 fob with a new HU101 emergency blade cut on site.
Tested push-to-start, all five buttons, passive entry on both front doors, and trunk pop. Everything came back clean. Then I re-registered his original fob too so he'd have a spare again.
His car never left that parking spot. The dealer wanted him to figure out a tow from a basement first and then wait a couple of days. I was done before his lunch break ended.
