2014 Jaguar XF Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy near the Ojai Meadows Preserve on a Saturday. His 2014 XF wouldn't respond to either of his smart keys. Both fobs dead to the car. Doors wouldn't unlock, start button did nothing, no chime, no acknowledgment at all.
He had already called the closest Jaguar dealer. They told him to get it towed in, they'd need to order a fob by VIN, and the earliest appointment was the following Thursday. He asked me if Jaguar keys were something I could actually touch. His mechanic had told him no.
I drove out. Plugged into the OBD port and pulled up the KVM through my Autel IM608 with the JLR software. The module was still healthy, still had his two key IDs stored, but both fobs had dropped off. One had a completely dead CR2032. The other had a battery that read 2.4 volts, which looks alive on a meter but isn't enough for the passive handshake the KVM expects.
Fresh CR2032 cells in both. Re-synced each fob to the KVM, one at a time. Tested lock, unlock, trunk, all five buttons, then push-to-start from both the driver seat and the passenger seat because that second antenna position catches problems the first one won't.
Both keys worked. He didn't need new fobs at all. The whole thing took about forty minutes, right there in the lot, for a fraction of what a tow and dealer visit would have cost him.
