2014 Jaguar XF Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Meiners Oaks on a Saturday afternoon. The guy owns a small vintage watch shop on the main stretch in Ojai, and he was standing outside next to his 2014 XF when I pulled up.
He had one key left, it had stopped being recognized intermittently, and his regular mechanic had already told him Jaguar keys were dealer-only territory. Said the security system was locked down and no independent could touch it.
I hear that one a lot. It used to have more truth to it than it does now.
He handed me the fob and I popped it open on the hood of my van. The CR2032 looked original. Not dead by a voltmeter but soft enough to cause exactly what he was describing: random non-detection, reduced range, the car taking two or three seconds to wake up when he grabbed the door handle. Swapped the battery, seated it properly, closed the fob back up. First test, the car woke up clean. Touch unlock on both handles, start button responded first press, every button checked out.
Then I asked him the real question: did he want a second key made while I was here, since he was down to one. He thought about it for about four seconds and said yes.
I pulled the donor fob, ran the key verification module through my diagnostic interface, registered the new fob to the car, and cut the blade to match. The whole thing happened in his parking lot, next to a display case of vintage Omegas, while he talked to a customer through the open shop door.
He called his mechanic afterward. I don't know what that conversation sounded like, but I'd guess it was short.
