2008 Jeep Commander Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Over in Sycamore Square, a guy called me around 9pm from a diner parking lot. His 2008 Jeep Commander went dead after his dinner break during a night security shift. Push the start button, nothing. No dash lights, no crank, nothing at all. His shift picked back up in an hour and he was standing alone in a dark lot.
Dealer was closed. A tow would just park it somewhere until morning. That didn't help him.
I got there and connected to the OBD port. Pulled data from the WIN module, which is the wireless ignition node that manages key recognition on the 2008 Commander's SKIM system. His IYZ-C01C fob had dropped right out of the module's memory. The vehicle battery was sitting at about 10.8 volts, borderline enough that a voltage dip during shutdown wiped the fob pairing. The PCF7941 transponder was fine, the fob was fine, the CR2032 was fine. The module just forgot.
I stabilized the battery, re-paired his six-button remote head key through the diagnostic port, and the Commander fired right up. The whole thing took maybe 35 minutes.
He drove to his post that night. The problem was never the fob. It was a tired battery that caused the WIN module to lose its mind. That kind of diagnosis is why I carry multiple tools and don't just throw parts at it.
