There's a dog boarding facility on the edge of Heritage Valley, out past the older ranch properties where Fillmore starts to feel more agricultural than residential. Guy who runs the place had been watching key replacement videos online for a while, just out of curiosity, and had my number saved before he ever needed it. That's a good position to be in.
He called me the week before a road trip. His 2017 Soul's fob had been flaky, range getting shorter, door handle proximity inconsistent. He wasn't sure if he needed a new fob or just a battery. He'd already tried a new CR2032 himself and it helped a little, but not all the way back to normal.

Opened the fob up first, checked the battery contacts and the board. The new CR2032 he'd put in was the right size but had been seated slightly off-center, not making full contact on both terminals. Reseated it properly, cleaned the contact points, and tested range from across the parking area near the gate. Night and day difference.
Then I ran every button, tested the handle proximity on both front doors, and confirmed the push-button start was reading the fob cleanly. He had his road trip covered.
He told me what the dealer quoted him for a full replacement fob with programming. The number was a lot. He saved a good chunk by calling first and letting me diagnose before assuming the worst.
