Cross at Grant Park, Sunday morning. A nurse's 2022 Soul wouldn't recognize her only flip key after a 12-hour shift.
She'd already tried the new battery dance. CR2032 in, CR2032 out, still nothing. The car just sat there with "Key Not Detected" on the dash while she held the fob against the start button like the manual says. Even the emergency blade wouldn't turn the ignition because these don't have a regular cylinder anymore.
I pulled up to find her googling tow companies. First thing I checked: the immobilizer antenna ring around the start button. These can fail after the TSB fix for the Kia Boys situation. Good connection there. Next, I popped her fob open on my tailgate. The battery contact had that telltale green tinge. Quick clean, proper CR2032 install, and tested. Still dead.
Time for a new flip key. I programmed a fresh SY5SKRGE04 through the OBD port using TDB1000. The 2022 Soul takes about eight minutes for the full sequence: erase old keys, add new transponder, then sync the remote buttons. Cut the emergency blade on my machine while the programming finished.
She saved a good chunk compared to Kia of Ventura's quote and got to work on time that night.
