Alignment shop in Samarkand neighborhood called about a dead 2021 Stinger. Another locksmith had walked away after the car's battery died mid-programming and threw the BCM into security lockout.
The Stinger sat there with B1601 "Invalid Smart Key" frozen on the dash. The first locksmith's partial programming sequence had corrupted the smart key module's stored data. When I hooked up my IM608, it wouldn't even communicate with the BCM.
I stabilized power with my jump pack first. Then cleared the fault codes through direct BCM access. The TQ8-FOB-4F15 uses rolling code encryption that has to sync perfectly with the BCM or it locks you out. One hiccup during the handshake and you're done.
After resetting the module, I registered the new fob using the proper Kia security protocol. The 4-button smart key learned clean on the first try. Tested all functions: lock, unlock, trunk, panic, and proximity detection at every door.
The alignment shop owner watched the whole process. Said the dealer wanted the car towed in, would take three days minimum, and quoted north of what I charged. I had his Stinger running in 90 minutes, right there in their service bay.
