I got a call from an alignment shop on the Upper East side of Santa Barbara. A Stinger owner had needed a replacement smart key, called a locksmith, and that job went sideways fast.
The other locksmith had started programming with the car battery already running low. Mid-sequence, voltage dropped, the security handshake got interrupted, and the immobilizer module went into a fault state. The car wouldn't accept a new key and wouldn't clear easily. That locksmith packed up and left. The alignment shop called me.
When I got there, the owner was standing next to his Stinger looking like a man who had been told two conflicting things and believed neither of them. The car was locked, the existing fob wasn't being recognized, and there were active fault codes in the security system from the botched attempt.
First thing I did was stabilize the battery with my jump pack. Low voltage during programming is how these jobs turn into nightmares, and trying to clear codes or re-register a key while the car is voltage-starved just compounds the problem. Once the supply was steady, I went in through the OBD port, cleared the fault codes, and waited for the module to settle before starting a clean programming sequence.

The new fob learned on the first attempt after the clean start. I walked every button, tested handle touch unlock on both doors, confirmed the start button saw the fob from the driver's seat and the passenger seat, and handed him two working keys.
About an hour and a half total. He'd already burned time waiting on the first locksmith. The dealer alternative was a flatbed, a multi-day wait, and a bill that would have been a lot more than what I charged. He seemed most relieved that someone had actually finished the job.
