Got a call to Bel Air Knolls neighborhood in Santa Barbara. Guy's 2023 Stinger wouldn't recognize his only key after a dead battery jump.
"Key not detected" on the dash, but the fob's LED still lit up when pressed. He'd already tried holding it against the start button like the manual says. Nothing. The car would unlock with the door handle sensor, then immediately refuse to start.
I checked the basics first. CR2032 tested good. But when I scanned through OBD, the BCM showed the key was deregistered during the battery disconnect. Happens sometimes on these newer Kias when voltage drops too low.
Connected my Autel IM608, pulled the PIN through server access, and went through the full key relearn. The Stinger makes you hold each fob against the start button for exactly 4 seconds during registration. Too short and it fails. The dashboard finally showed "Key recognized" and gave that welcome chime.
Twenty minutes total, including the PIN retrieval wait time. He mentioned the dealer wanted him to flatbed it in and quoted three days minimum. Their service writer said something about ordering keys from Korea, which made no sense since his key was right there working fine after proper programming.
