Got a call from a guy in the South Bank neighborhood in Oxnard. His 2010 LR2 had one key left, and his kid had dropped it in a storm drain the night before. No spare. Car sitting in the driveway, locked, no way to move it.
He had already called the Land Rover dealer. They told him the car would need to be towed in, the key would have to be ordered using the VIN and HK83-15K601-AA part number, and it could take up to two weeks for the part to arrive. Then another appointment for programming. He was looking at a stretch without his car and a tow bill on top of everything else.
I showed up with the blank, the cutter, and my JLR-compatible diagnostic setup. Cut the emergency blade on the HU101 profile, connected through the OBD port, accessed the KVM, and registered the new KOBJTF10A. The Hitag2 handshake went through clean. Programmed all five buttons, including the tailgate release, then tested passive entry on both front doors and the start button.
The whole thing took about 35 minutes. He sat on his front steps and watched most of it.
When I handed him the working key, he just turned it over in his hand a few times. Then he asked if he should get a spare. Smart guy. I told him yes, absolutely, same visit if he wanted. He did.
