2014 Land Rover LR2 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call around 9:40 PM from a guy over in the Rio Lindo neighborhood in Oxnard. His 2014 LR2 was sitting in his driveway and the only smart key he had just stopped working. Doors would not unlock on approach, start button did nothing, dash lit up with "Smart Key Not Detected." He had already tried a new CR2032. No change.
He called the Land Rover dealer earlier that day. They told him the key had to be ordered through JLR, could take two to three weeks, and he would need a tow to the service bay when it arrived. He was already looking at rental car apps when he found us.
I got there a little after 10. Pulled the KOBJTF10A apart on his hood and checked the board. Battery contacts looked fine, CR2032 seated correctly. The issue was the fob had lost its pairing to the RFA module. It happens on these, sometimes after a dead battery sits too long and the stored key data drops.
Connected to the OBD port, ran the KVM handshake, re-registered his original fob. Then I programmed a second spare while I was there so he would not be in this spot again. Tested passive entry on all doors, liftgate, and start button. Everything came back clean.
The whole visit took about 40 minutes. He said the dealer had quoted him weeks. I was done before 11.
