Lexus uses Toyota's immobilizer platform, which means your 2007 Lexus GS key has a transponder chip that talks to the car's smart ECU every time you start it. On older models it's a 4D-series chip. On newer ones it's an 8A chip with heavier encryption. Either way, the car sends a challenge, the chip responds with a code, and the engine starts only if the answer matches. That security layer is why a hardware store copy won't work.
