Got a call from a guy near Simi Valley Hospital with a 2004 Lexus GS430. All keys gone. He'd been quoted a tow to the Lexus dealer in Thousand Oaks plus a multi-day wait while they ordered a new key and reset the immobilizer. He was not excited about that plan.
I drove out to him. The GS was sitting in a parking lot, completely dead to the world. No fob, no way to disarm the immobilizer, engine cranks but won't catch. Classic all-keys-lost behavior on these second-gen GS cars.
On the 2004 GS, the immobilizer ECU talks to the transponder in the key head every time you turn the ignition. When there's no registered key left, the ECU won't release fuel or spark. I connected my ACDP to pull EEPROM data from the immobilizer module as a backup, then ran the AKL procedure through OBD. Once the old key data was wiped and the new HYQ1512V was registered, I cut the blade to the GS's locks right there on site.
He sat on a bench nearby and watched. When the engine turned over clean on the first try, he just nodded. Not a celebration, more like relief hitting him quietly.
The whole thing took about 45 minutes. No tow, no dealer wait, no coming back in three days. He drove home with two fresh keys for a fraction of what the dealer route would have run him.
