A customer near Simi Hills Golf Course in Simi Valley had her only remote head key to her 2001 Lexus GS crack along the seam. Then the emergency blade snapped off when she tried manual entry. Fob housing in one hand, blade fragment stuck in the door lock. Zero working keys.
I pulled out my VVDI2 and read the transponder data from the cracked fob's 4C chip, which was still intact inside the broken housing. That saved real time because I could skip a full immobilizer reset on the ECU. I extracted the blade fragment from the cylinder, decoded the lock wafers, and cut two fresh TOY48 blades. Her original HYQ1512V board and chip got transplanted into a new shell with a fresh CR1616.
I showed her the tiny glass 4C chip from the cracked key so she could see it was still good. Smaller than a grain of rice, and that little thing is the reason the car starts.
She went from zero keys to two in about 45 minutes. A full all-keys-lost reset would have taken longer and cost more. And the dealer had quoted her a wait of over a week just to get in. If you have the broken fob, bring it. That chip inside can save you time and money.
