2003 Lexus GS Remote head key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call around 11pm from a guy near the Santa Susana Depot Museum in Simi Valley. His 2003 Lexus GS300 was sitting in the driveway and his only remote head key had finally given up. The plastic housing had been cracked for months and the board inside, the one that drives the three buttons on the HYQ1512V, had gotten moisture in it. Remote functions were dead. Then the key itself stopped being recognized by the immobilizer, which meant the engine would crank but cut right out.
He had already called the Lexus dealer. They told him earliest appointment was four days out and he would need a tow in.
I showed up with a blank remote head key, part number 89070-33470, and my programmer. The 2003 GS uses the older 4C transponder protocol, so registration goes through the key addition procedure with existing key bypass when you have the right diagnostic access. Cut the blade on the van, programmed the transponder to the immobilizer ECU, synced the remote, dropped in a fresh CR1616.
Tested all three buttons. Lock, unlock, trunk. Then started the car twice cold to make sure the immobilizer handshake was clean both times.
He stood there watching his car idle and just said "that's it?" Like he had been bracing for a whole production. It was about 25 minutes start to finish, for a fraction of what the dealer quoted him.
