2003 Lexus GS
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Is a locksmith cheaper than going to the Lexus dealer for a 2003 GS key?

Almost always, yes -- and by a meaningful amount. Dealers on older Lexus models tend to charge separately for the key blank, cutting, and programming labor, and if you cannot drive in, a tow gets added to that. Mobile service means the work comes to your driveway in Simi Valley with no tow and no waiting for a shop appointment. The gap is real.

Q: Does the price include cutting and programming?

Yes. One price, everything included. The remote head key blank, cutting the blade to your car's lock, programming the transponder so the ignition recognizes it, syncing the fob so the lock and unlock buttons work, and a full test before I drive away. Nothing gets billed separately after the fact. The number I give you on the phone is the number on the job.

Q: My 2003 GS starts fine but the fob buttons stopped working. Do I need a whole new key?

Not necessarily. On the 2003 GS remote head key, the ignition side and the fob side are independent in terms of what can fail. If the car starts and runs normally when you turn the key, the transponder chip is doing its job. Dead lock and unlock buttons point to the fob portion specifically -- and the first thing to check is the battery.

Q: I lost my only key for the 2003 GS. Can you make a new one without the original?

Yes. All-keys-lost on the 2003 GS is a job I do on-site. I bring the equipment to your location in Simi Valley, connect through the diagnostic port, clear the old key data from the vehicle's immobilizer, and register the new remote head key. The blade gets cut to your vehicle as part of the same visit. You do not need to tow the car anywhere.

2003 Lexus GS Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a guy over in Wood Ranch, Simi Valley, late on a weeknight. His 2003 Lexus GS was sitting in the driveway and he had one key left. No backup. The fob had quit responding and he was starting to spiral a little, already looking up tow companies and wondering if Lexus would even have parts for a car this old.

I told him to stay put.

When I pulled up, he met me outside. I asked him to try the key in the ignition while I watched. It turned, the car started -- so the transponder side was still doing its job. The problem was the fob portion of the remote head key. The CR1616 cell was so flat it had basically given up. Swapped it out, reseated the contacts, and the lock and unlock buttons came right back. He stood there clicking it a few extra times like he needed to hear it more than once.

We talked for a minute after. He had already called the dealer before reaching me. They told him he would need to bring the car in, possibly leave it, and they would sort out pricing once a tech looked at it. Vague timeline, vague number. He saved a good chunk by not going that route, and he never had to leave his neighborhood.

Not every call is a big programming job. Sometimes it is a dead cell and the right set of eyes to confirm nothing else is wrong.

Lexus GS Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How much does a 2003 Lexus GS key replacement cost?▼

No dollar amounts get posted here -- pricing depends on what you actually need, and I give you a real number when you call. What I can tell you is that a mobile replacement for the 2003 GS covers everything in one price: the remote head key, cutting the blade to your vehicle, programming, and testing both the ignition and the fob functions before I leave Wood Ranch or wherever you are in Simi Valley.
