Got a call from a driver pulled off near Rocky Peak Trail in Simi Valley. His 2000 Lexus GS key blade snapped clean in the ignition. Half the TOY48 blade stuck deep in the cylinder, half in his hand.
He'd already called another locksmith who quoted a full ignition cylinder replacement over the phone without even asking what happened. New cylinder, new keys, the whole teardown.
I drove out and used my Lishi TOY43R to grab the broken fragment without touching the wafer surfaces. Once the piece was out, I decoded the lock right off the cylinder readings. No drilling, no disassembly, nothing destructive. Cut a fresh blade on the van, paired the new 4C transponder through the OBD port, and tested the immobilizer response.
His remote head key, the HYQ1512V with part number 89070-33470, was physically intact aside from the blade. The remote side still worked. So I moved the board and battery over to a new shell with the fresh cut blade. Same fob, same buttons, new key.
He sat on the tailgate watching and kept looking back at the ignition like he expected damage. There was none. Original lock cylinder, original wafers, works exactly like before.
The other shop's destructive approach would have cost him a good chunk more and left him with a replaced cylinder he never needed.
