2018 Lexus GS
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2018 Lexus GS Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy in Leisure Village called me on a Tuesday afternoon. He had his 2018 Lexus GS in the driveway and one fob that had been acting strange for weeks.

Touch unlock on the driver's door was going in and out. Some days fine, some days he'd have to reach for the door handle twice before it responded. Then one morning it stopped recognizing the key entirely. The dash was showing a key-not-detected warning. He hadn't lost the fob. It was sitting right there on his kitchen counter.

He'd already been to the dealer once. They told him to make an appointment, come back, and be prepared to wait. He didn't want to wait.

I pulled up to his driveway in Leisure Village with the right blank already staged. Popped the fob on the hood, reseated the CR1632, and cleaned the contact points. The key-not-detected warning cleared. But his original fob had been through enough that he wanted a spare cut and programmed anyway, which is the smart call. One fob on a car like this is one dropped key away from a real problem.

We added the new fob while his original was also enrolled. Both tested clean. Touch unlock working on both door handles, start button reading immediately, the whole thing. He was back inside before his coffee got cold.

The dealer comparison didn't even come up until he was signing off. He just shook his head and said the appointment alone would've cost him most of his week.
