2000 Mitsubishi Galant
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2000 Mitsubishi Galant Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy over in Juanamaria, Ventura. He'd already had someone else try to make him a key for his 2000 Galant. The car would crank, fire for a second, then die. Every time. He'd been told the problem was somewhere in the vehicle's security module and that it was a bigger job than expected. The first locksmith walked.

When I got there, I pulled out the key he'd been given and checked the blade cut first. The cut was close but not confirmed. More importantly, when I connected through the OBD port, the immobilizer memory showed a key registration that hadn't completed its full learning cycle. The chip had written temporarily but never committed. The system was seeing a partially registered key and rejecting it at startup, which is exactly what a crank-and-die looks like from the outside.

I cleared the failed registration data, ran a clean programming sequence with the full timed confirmation cycle, and let it complete without rushing it. Then I verified the cut and tested the key on three cold starts back to back. Ran clean every time.

He paid me a fraction of what the dealer had quoted him. He'd already paid the first locksmith too, which I couldn't undo. But this time the job was actually finished.
