There's a gym near Blackstock in Oxnard, and the parking lot there has seen a few of my jobs over the years. This one stands out.
A guy had been fighting his 2003 Montero's ignition for weeks. Not a dead key, not a lost key. Just a lock that had gotten ornery. Some mornings it turned on the first try. I set the old worn wafers on the hood so he could see exactly what had been causing the bind.
The whole thing took about 45 minutes. He paid a fraction of what the dealer quoted, and he didn't need the full assembly they were pushing. The key turns clean now, first try every time.
