2004 Mitsubishi Montero Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A renter in the Wagon Wheel neighborhood in Oxnard called me about his 2004 Montero. His only transponder key had a crack running through the plastic head, right where the shell meets the blade. He was holding it together with electrical tape and waiting for it to finally snap.
He had already called around. The nearest Mitsubishi dealer quoted him a price and a week-long wait for the blank to come in. Mitsubishi's dealer network is thinner than Toyota or Honda, so the service department is not exactly fighting for your business on pricing.
I parked at his building and used my MIT11 Lishi to decode the door lock. Read all 8 cut positions off the wafers without touching his cracked original. That way even if his key broke in half on the drive home, the new one stood on its own data. Cut the blade on site, seated a fresh ID46 chip in the new shell, and programmed it through the OBD-II port. The ETACS module accepted it in about 25 minutes.
He tested it three times. Turned the engine on, off, on, off, pulled the key out, put it back. Then he looked at his taped-up original and just tossed it on the passenger seat like it owed him something.
