I got a call from a smog check shop near the Botanic Garden Area in Thousand Oaks. Not a smog job. A locksmith problem.
An Ariya owner had brought his car in for a routine check, and while it was sitting in the lot, another locksmith had attempted a smart key replacement. Somewhere in the middle of that job, the auxiliary battery voltage dropped. The programming sequence lost power mid-handshake. The other tech could not recover, packed his tools, and left. The owner was standing in a smog shop parking lot with a car that would not recognize any key.

Once voltage was stable, I used my main programmer to clear the fault state the immobilizer had landed in. Then I ran a clean enrollment sequence for the new fob. The factory fob for this car is a 4-button unit, and it paired on the first attempt once the module was in a good state.
Total time was about an hour and forty minutes. Longer than a standard add-a-key job, but shorter than a flatbed ride to the dealer and whatever wait came after that. The smog shop owner watched the whole thing. He said the other locksmith never put anything on the battery. That was probably the whole story right there.
