The 2025 Ariya owner near Stagecoach Inn Museum had that new-car confidence until his KR5TXN7 smart key went temperamental. Started with the doors not sensing his approach, then ProPILOT Park refused to engage.
"Key System Error" on the dash. He'd already tried the CR2032 swap himself. Still nothing.
I checked his work first. Battery was fresh but he'd bent one of the tiny retention tabs trying to pry the fob halves apart. The KR5TXN7 has those hidden clips that need to slide, not snap. Fixed the tab, reseated the battery properly, but the real issue was deeper.
Connected my Autel through OBD and found stored DTCs showing BCM2 had partially lost the key data. The Ariya's new system stores key info in three places: BCM2, ICU, and the cloud backup. His was corrupted in the BCM2 but intact elsewhere.
Ran a key relearn through NATS6, which meant pulling the PIN from Nissan's server. The BCM2 accepted the existing fob data from ICU memory after the proper security timer. All three buttons tested clean, door approach sensors back online, ProPILOT happy again.
Whole thing took 35 minutes in his driveway. Dealer quoted him overnight service plus diagnostic fees.
