2023 Nissan Z
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How fast can you get to me in Five Points?

Call and I'll give you an honest window based on where I am that day. I'm mobile and already running jobs in the Oxnard area, so I'm usually faster than arranging a tow to a dealer, waiting for a service writer, and then waiting again for a tech to free up. Nissan dealers typically require an appointment, and same-day slots for key work are not guaranteed.

Q: Can I get a replacement key made today?

In most cases, yes. I stock fobs and programming tools for Nissan's Intelligent Key system and I carry them in the service vehicle. If your situation is a standard add-a-key or a lost-key replacement and I have the right fob on hand, same-day service in Five Points is very much on the table. The main exception is all-keys-lost on a newer Z, which takes a bit more time but is still a same-day job in most circumstances.

Q: My 2023 Z shows a key-not-detected warning but the fob battery is brand new. What's going on?

This comes up on Z forums more than you'd think. A fresh battery rules out one cause, but there are others. First, check how the CR2032 is seated. If the battery is even slightly cocked or the contact plate has a small bend from being pried open before, the connection is unreliable even with a new cell. Clean the contact points and reseat it firmly. If that doesn't fix it, the fob's internal board may be damaged.

Q: I only have one key for my Z. Should I get a spare made before something goes wrong?

Yes, and the Z is a case where waiting until you lose the key gets expensive fast. Running one fob on any push-button-start vehicle is a risk, but on a sports car that gets driven hard, taken to track days, or parked in busy lots, the odds of that one fob getting damaged, lost, or stolen go up. Getting a spare made while you still have a working fob is the cheaper, faster path.

2023 Nissan Z Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from Five Points on a Wednesday afternoon. A woman had a 2023 Nissan Z, one key, and a problem: that key had gone through the washing machine the night before.

The fob looked okay from the outside. But it wouldn't trigger door lock or unlock from more than a foot away, and the car was throwing a key-not-detected warning on the push-button start screen. She had already tried a fresh battery. Still nothing consistent.

She told me the dealer said Friday at the earliest, possibly Monday depending on parts. She wasn't sure she could leave the car sitting in the school lot that long.

I drove out to Five Points, pulled up next to the Z, and connected my programming tool to the OBD port. I went through the Intelligent Key registration sequence, got the new fob paired to the vehicle, and walked her through every function: lock, unlock, and the remaining button, door handles, and start confirmation. Total time at the car was under 30 minutes.

She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a price that made her wince before she'd even asked about the wait. What she paid me was a fraction of that, and she drove off the same afternoon instead of arranging a tow and losing two days.

The washing machine gets fobs more often than people expect. The CR2032 survives, but the internal components do not always.

How long does a 2023 Nissan Z key replacement take?▼

For a standard add-a-key situation where the car already has at least one working fob, count on roughly 20 to 35 minutes once I'm at the vehicle. The Intelligent Key programming sequence on the Z has a built-in timed registration window, so there's no way to rush that part. All-keys-lost takes longer because it requires a full system reset before any new fob can be enrolled, and that reset has its own countdown.
