Got a call from a guy near the Camarillo Library who was sitting in his 1999 Alero watching the SECURITY light blink at him. Car would crank, fuel pump would not kick on, and nothing happened after that. He had already tried the 10-minute relearn three times in a row, sitting in a hot car with the key turned to ON, waiting for the light to go off, cycling it back. Three rounds of that. Forty-five minutes of his afternoon.
He said the dealer told him they would need the car towed in, replace the ignition lock cylinder assembly, and reprogram the Passlock module. Quoted him days, not hours.
I pulled up, checked the Passlock II signal at the Body Control Module connector, and found the problem. The wiring from the lock cylinder sensor had a dodgy connection at the BCM harness, pin B5 on the blue connector. Intermittent resistance reading was throwing the BCM off, and it was killing the fuel injector pulse every time.
Cleaned the connection, pinned it tight, ran a fresh Passlock relearn with my scan tool to reset the BCM's stored resistance value. Took maybe 25 minutes total. Car fired right up.
He just sat there with his hands on the wheel for a second like he was waiting for it to stall again. It did not.
The remote buttons were a separate deal. Programmed the KOBUT1BT through the on-board sequence after that. Lock, unlock, trunk, panic, all four checked out. One visit, done by the library, for a fraction of what the dealer wanted.
