Got a call from a guy out at Marine Emporium Landing in Oxnard. His 2003 Aztek was sitting in the lot and he had zero keys. None. Lost the only one he had somewhere near the water and spent an hour retracing his steps before giving up.
He already called the dealer. They told him tow it in, leave it, and expect a few days. He said he just stood there staring at the phone after he hung up.
I pulled up, confirmed the VIN, and got to work on the B99 keyway blank. Cut the blade on my mobile machine using the code pulled from the lock. Then I connected to the OBD-II port and ran the PK3 all-keys-lost procedure through the BCM. That part has a mandatory ten-minute relearn cycle built into the security system. You can't rush it. The BCM needs to time out, accept the new Megamos ID 13 transponder value, and clear the old key data.
While the timer ran, I programmed the three-button remote head, lock, unlock, and hatch release, using the FCC remote frequency. Tested every button, tested the ignition twice cold.
He was sitting on the tailgate eating a sandwich when I told him it was done. Whole thing took maybe 35 minutes, most of that just the security timer. He drove off and I packed up.
Way less than the dealer wanted, and nobody had to call a tow truck.
