I was already parked near San Roque wrapping up another call when the message came in. Friday night, close to 10:15, a couple had walked out of a spot near the lounge strip and the Panamera wasn't responding to anything. No unlock, no lights, nothing. They assumed the car was broken and were mentally preparing for a Monday dealer appointment.
It was the fob battery. CR2032, fully drained. But they didn't know about the emergency blade hidden inside the fob body, so they couldn't even get into the car the manual way. That's the part that always gets me. Porsche engineers put that blade in there for exactly this situation, and almost nobody knows it exists until someone like me is standing next to them pointing at the release.
I popped the blade out, got them into the car, swapped the CR2032, and then ran the registration sequence through the OBD port to make sure the fob and the vehicle's keyless system were talking cleanly again. First press of the start button, engine up.
The whole thing took less time than it would have taken them to find a tow number. They drove home that night instead of leaving a Panamera on the street all weekend. The dealer quote they got on Monday, out of curiosity, was a lot more than what they paid me. That part didn't surprise either of us.
