Over in Marina Park in Ventura, a woman called me on a Monday about her 2015 Promaster City. She had already called the dealer. Friday at the earliest, they told her. Then she would need a tow because the van had no working key at all.

The Promaster City runs FCA's FOBIK system with a Hitag AES transponder chip, and the FOBIK seats into a slot on the dash column instead of turning in a traditional ignition. I connected my Smart Pro to the OBD port, ran the all-keys-lost procedure for the WIN module, and registered a new FOBIK. Cut the emergency blade right there on the spot, tested the slot ignition start, checked lock and unlock from outside, and confirmed the sliding door button worked.
She stood there watching the whole time, holding her kid on one hip. When the van started, she just nodded. Like she had already decided it was going to work and was just waiting for me to catch up.
Monday call, Monday fix. The dealer route would have meant a tow, a week of waiting, and a bill that would have been a lot heavier than mine.
