2017 Ram Promaster City
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

Scam locksmiths follow a recognizable pattern. They quote a low number over the phone, show up without the right equipment, and then invent a reason the price has to double. On a vehicle like the 2017 Ram ProMaster City, a common move is to claim specialized access or tools are required and then bill accordingly after you're already committed.

Q: Will the replacement emergency key work exactly like the original?

Yes. The emergency blade for the 2017 Ram ProMaster City works the door lock and the ignition cylinder mechanically, the same as the original. Once it's cut correctly to your vehicle, it operates the locks and starts the engine. I test both before I leave. If anything feels off in the cylinder, I know before you drive away, not after.

Q: Can the emergency blade be cut if I don't have the original key at all?

Yes, and this comes up more than you'd think. If you've lost the key entirely, I can decode the cut directly from the door lock or the ignition cylinder. The lock holds the information I need. I don't need the original blade to produce a working replacement. This is one of the main reasons having a mobile locksmith come to the vehicle matters, rather than trying to order something online and guess at the cut.

Q: The emergency blade inside my fob is bent or broken. Can just that piece be replaced without replacing the whole fob?

Usually, yes. The blade is a separate component from the fob housing on the ProMaster City flip key. If the housing and the electronics are still intact and working, there's no reason to replace the whole unit. I can cut a new blade and fit it to your existing housing.

2017 Ram Promaster City Emergency Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Friday night on The Avenue in Ventura. A couple had been at the movie theater and came out to find their 2017 Ram ProMaster City completely unwilling to cooperate. The fob had given up somewhere during the movie, and the emergency blade inside the housing was the only way in. Problem was, they'd never actually used it and weren't sure it would work in the ignition.

I got there in about fifteen minutes. The van was already stocked with blanks and the tools to decode a lock cylinder. I pulled the blade from their existing fob housing, looked at what I had, and decoded the door lock to confirm the cut. The original blade had worn unevenly, which happens on these when the emergency key never gets used and then one day you actually need it.

Cut a fresh blade, matched it to the cylinder, and handed it back. The ignition turned clean on the first try. They stood there for a second like they expected something else to happen.

They drove home that night. The dealer option would have meant leaving the vehicle, waiting until Monday, and paying considerably more for the same result.

Ram Promaster City Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Ram vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz holds a California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services locksmith license and carries full business insurance. You can verify the license number directly through the BSIS website before I show up. I work on Ram ProMaster City vehicles regularly, and the 2017 is a straightforward key job for me. I'm not a general handyman who picked up a key machine. This is the work.
