Got a call from a guy near San Buenaventura State Beach in Ventura. He ran a small catering operation out of a 2018 Ram Promaster City, the cargo version, and his only emergency key had snapped at the bow. Half the blade was still in the driver door lock.
He had the fob working fine for remote lock and unlock, but the fob battery was getting weak and he knew he was one dead battery away from being locked out for real. The broken blade meant no backup entry and no emergency start if the fob quit on him. He had called the dealer already. They told him the key had to be ordered through Mopar, part number 68338342AA, and it would take three to five business days before they could cut and program it.
I pulled the broken blade fragment out of the door cylinder with an extractor. No damage to the wafers. Then I cut a new SIP22 emergency blade from a blank, matched to his existing key code pulled through the diagnostic port. The Megamos 48 transponder chip cloned clean on the first pass.
Tested the new blade in the door lock, then in the ignition backup slot. Cranked right up. He stood there holding both pieces of the old snapped key like he was going to keep them as a souvenir.
Whole job took about 35 minutes. He was back on the road with a working spare and a full catering van, same afternoon.
