2006 Scion XA Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in the Blanchard Community area of Santa Paula, a guy called me from a parking lot after his night class. His 2006 Scion XA remote had quit. Every button, dead. Doors locked, spare key sitting at home.
He had already called the dealer. Earliest opening was Thursday. This was Monday night.
I got to him in about 30 minutes. Slim-jimmed the door, plugged my Autel IM608 into the OBD-II port under the dash, and pulled up the immobilizer data. The 4D-67 transponder was still registered and reading fine. The engine side wasn't the problem. I cracked open the remote head and there it was: a hairline solder fracture on the circuit board, right at the battery contact pad. Classic drop damage on these BAB237131-056 units. The board itself, part number 08191-00922, is the same one Toyota used across a bunch of first-gen Scion remotes, and the solder work from the factory is not generous.
I swapped in a new shell with fresh electronics, cut the blade to code on site, and programmed the remote. Tested lock, unlock, panic, and the transponder start. Everything responded.
He drove home that same night. The whole job took under an hour. He had been bracing for a tow bill, three days without his car, and dealer pricing. Instead he got it handled in a parking lot on a Monday evening for a fraction of what that week would have cost him.
