Out in Oxnard's Historic District, I pulled up behind a dark blue S90 sitting half in a driveway, half on the brick-lined street. The owner had gotten a key-not-detected warning that morning, then the car decided it was done letting him in at all. He had already swapped the battery once. Still nothing.
The fob looked fine on the outside. I popped it open on the trunk lid and the battery was brand new, seated correctly, but one of the contact tabs had a slight inward bend, just enough to lose connection under pressure. I straightened it, cleaned both contact points, and reseated the CR2032.
Then I walked every function: door unlock, lock, the other two buttons, touch-handle unlock on both front doors, and start. The car woke right up like nothing had happened. That warning was gone.
He had already called a dealer before reaching me. They were ready to book him in, quoted a multi-day turnaround, and the number they gave him was not small. He came out ahead by a wide margin, and the fix took about twenty minutes on the curb.
Not every S90 call ends that cleanly. Sometimes the fob genuinely needs to be replaced and enrolled with diagnostic tools. But on this one, the hardware was fine. Just needed someone to look at it the right way.
