2017 Volvo S90 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy near the Del Sol shopping area in Oxnard. His 2017 Volvo S90 was sitting in a parking lot, engine off, and the start button wouldn't respond. Display just read "Key not identified." He had already tried holding the fob against the steering column, which is the backup method Volvo lists in the manual. Nothing.
He told me his other key had been lost months ago and he never replaced it. Now this one was acting up, and he was down to zero working keys on a car that needs VIDA/DiCE level diagnostics to register anything new.
I got there, opened the fob, and the CR2032 was corroded around one contact pad. Not dead, just dirty enough to lose communication with the CEM (Central Electronic Module, board reference P31429778 on these SPA cars). Cleaned the contact, dropped in a fresh CR2032, and the proximity detection came right back. Start button worked on the first press.
But one working key on an SPA Volvo is a gamble. So I programmed a second YGOHUF8423 smart key right there through the OBD port. On these, all keys get enrolled in a single VIDA session, so the original had to be re-registered alongside the new one. Both tested clean: lock, unlock, trunk, panic, proximity start.
He sat in the driver's seat for a second, just holding both keys, like having a backup physically in his hand changed something. Whole job, parking lot, done. A fraction of what the dealer wanted and no tow truck involved.
