2023 Volvo S90
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2023 Volvo S90 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy over in the College area of Ventura. He had a 2023 S90, and another locksmith had made him a replacement fob a week earlier.

It worked fine for five days. Then it started acting up, randomly failing to detect on door approach, then throwing a key-not-detected warning on the dash by day seven. By the time he called me, his S90 was starting maybe half the time.

He was convinced the body control module was failing. That's where your head goes when a nearly new car starts doing something that inconsistent.

I pulled up to his place with my kit and the first thing I did was read the fob the previous locksmith had programmed. The pairing itself had gone through, but the key had an incorrect transponder configuration for this generation of the vehicle security system. It had passed the initial handshake because the first layer of authentication is relatively permissive. The deeper rolling-code validation is where it was falling apart, and that process doesn't fail immediately. It degrades. Which is exactly what he experienced: five good days, then a week of chaos.

I programmed a correctly configured replacement fob matched to his vehicle, swapped in a fresh CR2032 while I had it open, and walked every function. Door approach detection, the center console passive read backup, all four buttons, push-button start. Everything confirmed clean before I left.

The dealer had already quoted him a number that made him wince. What he paid me was a fraction of that, and he didn't have to leave Ventura or arrange a tow.
