2018 Volvo S90 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a Euro specialist shop off Gonzales Road in Oxnard. They had a customer's 2018 S90 up on the lift after a service, and the car needed a replacement key. The shop had called another locksmith first. That guy showed up, attempted an OBD procedure, hit a wall when the CEM rejected the pairing, and left. Now the CEM was stuck in a fault state, throwing communication errors and refusing all key registration. The car was a brick.
I brought my Yanhua Mini ACDP with the Volvo SPA bench adapter. Pulled the CEM from behind the glove box, connected it on the bench, and read the secured EEPROM data. The previous attempt had corrupted part of the key index table. I cleared the bad writes, restored the original data structure, and generated a fresh YGOHUF8423 fob from the dump.
Slid the CEM back in, plugged the harness, and the new smart key paired on the first clean attempt. All four buttons working. Start button responding from the driver's seat. I walked the shop guys through what went wrong so they'd recognize a botched CEM state if they ever saw it again.
The whole thing took about two hours including module pull and reinstall. The alternative was a flatbed to Volvo of Ventura, a possible CEM replacement on top of the key, and the car sitting there for a week or more.
