2005 Cadillac Escalade Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy in Downtown Lemon Grove called me on a Tuesday morning because his 2005 Cadillac Escalade key would not come out of the ignition. He had been dealing with it for a few weeks, same as a lot of Escalade owners from this era. Jiggle the shifter, turn the wheel, pull harder than you should have to. Eventually it comes free, but every time it gets a little worse.
He had already called the dealer. They told him he needed a new ignition cylinder, new keys to match, and a full reprogram. He was not thrilled about that number or about towing the truck across town.
I drove out and looked at the cylinder and the shifter interlock. This generation of GM full-size trucks and SUVs develops a known sticking issue from worn internal wafers combined with a sluggish park interlock. The cylinder was not seized, just tired. No need to swap the whole assembly.
I decoded the existing lock, replaced the worn wafers, and cleaned up the interlock mechanism. His original key and his existing fob both worked exactly as they should once the cylinder was moving freely again. I showed him the old wafers so the wear pattern was visible. He could see why it was sticking.
The dealer quote included a full cylinder assembly he did not need. What he actually needed was a few worn parts and someone willing to look before replacing everything in sight.
